Castello di Tornano in brief
A medieval castle dated 1100 A.D., Castello di Tornano is a national monument protected by the Ministry for Fine Arts. It is located on a hillside amid woods and vineyards on the southernmost tip of the Chianti region. Fifteen hectares of the estate’s 118 are dedicated to vines, eight to olive trees. In the 19th century, the castle belonged to Barone Ricasoli, one of the founding members of the Chianti Classico Consortium and a renowned wine grower. Ricasoli developed the original Chianti blend that we know and love today. In 1985, The Selvolini family bought the estate, and they have been producing 100,000 bottles of wine per year ever since. Tornano’s director, Francesco Gioffreda, says, "Our recipe for success includes well-positioned vineyards, careful grape selection, natural oak-cask ageing and, of course, a passion for wine." The Tornano production includes an exceptional Chianti Classico D.O.C.G., Vin Santo, Grappa and extra virgin olive oil.
